What is Taiko VR?
Description:
Taiko VR is inspired by the arcade game 太鼓の達人 or in English Taiko no Tatsujin. This game was developed by Namco in Japan and is pretty much not available around where I live. Seeing a few good projects on Steam and other sites, I never spotted a VR simulator of the game, which truly tried to mimic the arcade feeling. So I thought: "fine I'm gonna do it myself". So this simulator aims to mimic the arcade feeling of 太鼓の達人 in VR. For the Beatmaps I chose the osu!taiko beatmaps in the .osu standard. I mainly did this because I played osu!taiko a lot and am way more familiar than with .tja. I don't really know much about the .tja standard, but maybe I'll integrate it sooner or later. The game is developed using Godot as the game engine and Blender for the 3D Models. The basic concept of the game in Godot uses 2 different games, there is the 3D VR runtime with the arcade and controllers, but this is just the environment to play the game. The 太鼓の達人 2D game is a standalone game which is made parallel and just projected into the VR environment as a texture.
Minimum System Specs:
As long as it computes it should be enough.
I programmed and debugged parts of this on an Intel 1165G7 with Xe Graphics.
I also tested it on an Intel 6300u with an Intel HD 520, also runs the 3D runtime pretty ok.

Contribute:
-2D Taiko is complete and has all the basic features it needs to be fully playable. Currently missing features are Donchan and other animations, the spirit bar, multiplayer for 2 players and others.
-VR Taiko is still in development, but the current version is basically playable with haptic feedback. But there is a lot of work to get the VR feeling right and arcady, this involves further debouncing the drum. I also need to work on the 3D environment as its currently a sad basic blocky room. I plan to model a Arcade cabinet which is similar to the real ones, I made some measures and photos of the ニジイロVer. The biggest thing before a release version would be creating my own assets, textures and sounds or use open source ones. With the current ones I would scream for a lawsuit with Namco, as it is their copyrighted material. If you would like to have access to the current version you can help me speed up the process by creating assets, textures or sounds. I'm not that good of an artist.
